Biosolvit, a Brazilian startup of sustainable products, was one of the three companies that won the Blue Bio Value 2019, held in Portugal. Biosolvit won a prize of 15 thousand euros to be used in the Blue Demo Network, an infrastructure platform and services such as access to laboratories, research, among others.
The Brazilian company competed with 15 other companies focused on ocean sustainability. Biosolvit went to Portugal as part of the delegation of about 20 startups in an Apex-Brasil Internationalization Mission at the 2019 Web Summit. The company also participated in the Brazilian agency’s StartOut program in an edition held in Paris.
Biosolvit develops solutions in two different verticals: Bioblue and Biogreen. At Bioblue, the startup develops products to absorb petroleum derivatives on land or at sea, reducing the risk of contamination. The organic solution allows the reuse of waste.
In the Biogreen vertical, Biosolvit reuses crop residues, such as palm fibers discarded in the production of canned hearts of palm. “Only 3% of a palm tree is used to make canned hearts of palm, 97% is thrown away. We reused them to make other materials”, says Guilhermo Queiroz, founder and CEO of the startup, in an exclusive interview to StartSe. Potted plants, vegetable soil, among others, are created.
Created at the end of 2017, Biosolvit is in the process of international expansion to Houston, in the United States, and Portugal.
